Anomaly Inflow at Singularities

چکیده
Many noncompact Type I orbifolds satisfy tadpole constraints yet are anomalous. We present a generalization of the anomaly inflow mechanism for some of these cases in six and four dimensions.

Intersecting D–branes, Chern–kernels and the inflow mechanism
We analyse a system of arbitrarily intersecting D–branes in ten– dimensional supergravity. Chiral anomalies are supported on the intersection branes, called I–branes. For non–transversal intersections anomaly cancellation has been realized until now only cohomologically but not locally, due to short–distance singularities. In this paper we present a consistent local cancellation mechanism, writ...
متن کاملAnomaly inflow and RR anomalous couplings
We review the anomaly inflow mechanism on D-branes and O-planes. In particular, we compute the one-loop world-volume anomalies and derive the RR anomalous couplings required for their cancellation. 1 Anomalies and inflow It is known that a consistent quantum field theory can happen to admit as vacuum a topological defect carrying chiral zero modes. The anomaly arising on the world-volume must t...
متن کاملAnomaly Inflow for Gauge Defects
Topological defects constructed out of scalar fields and possessing chiral fermion zero modes are known to exhibit an anomaly inflow mechanism which cancels the anomaly in the effective theory of the zero modes through an inflow of current from the space in which the defect is embedded. We investigate the analog of this mechanism for defects constructed out of gauge fields in higher dimensions....
متن کاملI-Brane Inflow and Anomalous Couplings on D-Branes
We show that the anomalous couplings of D-brane gauge and gravitational fields to Ramond-Ramond tensor potentials can be deduced by a simple anomaly inflow argument applied to intersecting D-branes and use this to determine the eight-form gravitational
متن کاملEmergent Conformal Symmetry of Quantum Hall States on Singular surfaces
We show that quantum Hall states on surfaces with conical singularities behave as conformal primaries near the singular points, with a conformal dimension controlled by the gravitational anomaly. We show that the electronic fluid at the cone tip possesses an intrinsic angular momentum equal to the conformal dimension, in units of the Planck constant. Finally, we argue that the gravitational ano...
